GED Test Information

Testing Schedule

Testing takes place the second Monday and Tuesday of every month – August through May.  The test is given from 8:00am – 12:00pm both days.  You must pre-register for the test by the Wednesday prior to the test.

 Eligibility Requirements

·        You are eligible to take the GED test:

-         if you have not graduated from an accredited high school

-         if you have not previously earned scores sufficient to quality for a high school equivalency credential

-         if you are at least seventeen years of age and have withdrawn from all forms of high school.

·        All applicants must have resided in Indiana a minimum of 30 days immediately proceeding the date of testing and documentation must be presented at the time of testing.

·        Requirements for Seventeen-year-olds:

-         Seventeen-year-olds must be withdrawn from high school.  The necessary evidence of this is documentation that the individual has completed the Exit Interview Process already in place in high schools.  The Exit Interview documentation from the high school will include signatures by the student’s parent or guardian, the student, and the head principal’s signature. (Note:  An assistant principal or counselor may not sign for the principal.)

-         Seventeen-year-olds must also pass a pre-GED test before taking the GED test. 

 

Registration Requirements

All applicants must pre-register at the Adult Education Office (Room A108) at the Southeastern Career Center during regular office hours. The office is open Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Candidates must arrive an hour before closing in order to register. Registration must be completed the Wednesday prior to testing and takes approximately 30 minutes.

·        Three forms of ID must be presented at the time of registration.

-         One form must be photo identification such as an Indiana driver’s license, Indiana state identification card, or current passport.  (This same photo ID must be shown each day of testing.)

-         Two other forms of ID may be any two of the following:

-Social Security Card                                 -Library Card

-Birth Certificate                                         -Hunting or Fishing License

-Car Registration                                        -Payroll Stub

-Medical or Automobile Insurance Card     -Current Utility Bill

·        Requirements for Seventeen-year-olds:

-         Seventeen-year-olds must present the signed exit interview form from the high school signed by the principal, parent and student; the scores of a passed pre-GED test; and three forms of identification at the time of registration.

 

Testing Fees

Testing Fees must be paid (in cash or money order) at the time of registration.  The fee for the GED test is $60.00.  If an examinee is required to retest, the fee is $12.00 per individual section.  Payment may be made in the form of cash or money order.  Checks, debt cards and credit cards will not be accepted.

 

Score Requirements

All applicants must achieve the following scores to pass the GED:

Total points must be 2,250 points or above to pass with an average score of 450 points achieved overall and a score of no lower than 410 points must be achieved on each section. Each test has a range of 200-800 points.

 

Testing Results

Test will be sent in for scoring shortly after the exam is completed.  Scoring will take an average of 6 to 8 weeks.  The testing center will return the scores to the examinees as soon as possible.  If you do not pass the exam, the scores will contain date that you are eligible to retest.

 

Retesting Requirements

Retesting is allowed after the eligible test date on the score report.
