Computer Aided Drafting David Miles

In this class, students will learn both basic manual drafting on the board, and computer aided drafting. CAD is a two-year program for sophomores, juniors and senior students. Experience will be gained in the latest 2D and 3D computer design tools. Students will get to use AutoCAD 2011 and many of its sub-programs such as Inventor, AutoCAD Architecture, Revit, 3ds MAX and others. AutoCAD has become the professional choice for Engineering, Architecture,and Game Design. Students learn Rhino 3D NURBS modeling and Bongo animation programs-used on movies such as SpiderMan, Ice Age, and Minority Report. Other programs may include Blender and Microsoft Office (including Windows Movie Maker).

Dual college credits are available in this course with Vincennes University Project Excel program and IvyTech Community College. With the continually evolving complexity of the Computer Aided Design industry we encourage students to attend post-secondary educational programs to further their education.

This course provides an excellent opportunity for any student planning on pursuing a career or degree in any of the following areas:

• Mechanical, Civil, or Architectural Technician
• Computer Graphics Designer
• Land Surveyor


Suggested classes to prepare for success in this course are applied math, applied science, and any technology education courses.

Career and Technical Student Organization:

(Skills USA) Students participate in community service projects, and various skill competitions through Skills USA. Through these activities students develop leadership and organizational skills, team building, interpersonal communications, and enhanced technical skills.
